Summary

Fieldwalking in 1985 by the Fenland Survey recovered a scatter of medieval pottery sherds from the eastern part of this field, as well as noting two concentrations of material. These included medieval pottery sherds, shell and bone fragments, and some post medieval period. A possible medieval drove was also recorded. A small number of Late Saxon sherds were also noted.

16 April 1985. Fieldwalking on weathered ploughsoil.
Context 1: general scatter medieval sherds, mainly in east part field. TYL CJ (S1).
Context 2 at 5557 1643: concentration sparse to moderate shells, but only few sherds medieval. On putative drove edge, 20m diameter. 2.4m OD. TYL CI (S2).
Context 3 at 5551 1638: concentration sparse medieval sherds, moderate shell, couple bone fragments, some post medieval material. Also one Late Saxon sherd Slight slope may indicate edge of medieval drove here but few signs in field. 41m northeast to southwest x 24m northwest to southeast at 2.4m OD. TYL 35 (S3).
