NHER 21474 (Monument record) - Multi-period finds

5 and 11 March 1985.
Context 1 (unweathered drilled surface): 1 jar rim and 2 sherds medieval unglazed.
Contexts 2 and 3 (features within context 1, seen 25 April 1985):
Context 2: feature cut 1.5m below surface of silt natural. At least 4m wide and filled with grey silt.
Not excavated but from surface of filling where cut by roadside ditch are small fragments of burnt daub,
2 animal bones, 1 scrap dry grey gritty pot.
Context 3: feature of similar dimensions and fill, filling on north side of road and also cut by roadside ditch.
Lying on base of new ditch and almost certainly eroded out of filling of old ditch.
1 rim of jar with sparse angular white grits; form suggests this is of Middle Saxon date.

April 1985. Metal detecting finds on same site about 25m from east end field.
Coins: Faustina II, sestertius, DIANA LVCIFERA SC? 161 to 175.
Irregular Antoninianus 270 to 280s.

4 October 1985. From weathered roadside ditch edge on south side of new road.
Context 4(not in features but topsoil): 2 medieval unglazed bodysherds.
