Full Description
June 1985. Harling Road, site of old malt yard. Found in digging foundations for new houses.
Pit several feet deep, reported by foreman as containing fossilised bones. Bones seen by NCM Natural History Department. They were not fossilised or apparently of extreme antiquity and contained parts from horse, donkey, pig etc. - therefore probably a butcher's rubbish pit. Sherd also found but lost - described by foreman as 'must be Roman because it was large, coarse and black with grooves across it'.
Site visited by E. Rose (NAU) but nothing visible - houses built.
A. Gregory (NAU) and E. Rose (NAU) 16 July 1985.
