Summary

Metal detecting in Skeyton during 1985 recovered a variety of metal objects dating to various archaeological periods. Finds of note included a copper alloy Early Saxon cruciform brooch, a farthing of Edward I and a possible hoard of post medieval coins consisting of three groats and two half groats of Elizabeth I, with two other contemporary coins.

10 September 1985. Found with metal detector 7.6cm (3in) deep in ploughsoil, all in diameter of 2.4m (8ft).
Bronze Early Saxon cruciform brooch Aberg group I head-plate same width as bow, foot missing.
Farthing Edward I?, London mint.
Scottish cut halfpenny of Alexander II 1214-49. Reverse east-west stars in angles of short cross.
Bronze medieval ewer leg; and chafing dish fragment handle, heart shaped loop.
Possible hoard of three groats and two half groats of Elizabeth I, one groat IM lis 1558-60 and one IM Martlet 1560-61.
Bronze post medieval thimble.
Charles I half groat. Reverse shows arms within oval.
