Summary

This is the crash site of a Hurricane plane which flew out of Sutton Bridge with a Polish pilot. The crash was the result of a midair collision and occurred around 1940, and when the plane was excavated the Merlin engine was found to be in excellent condition.

About 1940. Crash site. Northeast of Bank Farm, Saddlebow.
Hurricane from RAF Sutton Bridge.
Excavated 6 October 1985 by Fenland Aircraft Preservation Society. Merlin engine recovered 'best condition of any yet found'. Aircraft crashed after midair collision and Polish pilot buried at Sutton Bridge. Remains of plane excavated at 14ft (4m) depth and no other finds made.
