Summary

This building is listed as a pair of early 18th century cottages. The building is made of rendered clay lump on flint and brick plinth with a thatched roof. It has two storeys and an attic. It may have a much older, medieval core which has been much altered.

Listing Description:
Pair of cottages. Early 18th century and later. Rendered clay lump on flint and brick plinth with thatched roof. Two storeys and attic. Asymmetrical elevation. Corner pieces of red brick and flint. Two doors and four 19th century casements with moulded hoods on labels. Gabled roof with deep overhang and four gabled dormers with bargeboards. Dormers tiled. Triple shafted stack right of centre. Small external gable stack to south. South wall probably mid 18th century. Flint with brick dressings to eaves line. Brick with tumbling in gable. Single attic casement. Gabled kitchen extension to rear is pantiled. Scattered fenestration and one flat dormer.

1985. Visit.
East facade tallies with above description (except that stack was recorded as rectangular, not triple shafted in usual sense). But north gable wall to Meadow Lane seen 1985 - this clearly has timber corner posts and leans inward to produce an almost cruck shape. Together with offcentre stack this strongly suggests a much older core, but local people say interior has been gutted. Roof recently rethatched.
