Summary

The site of an early 19th century eight-sided smock mill. The mill stopped working in 1904, and it is thought nothing remains today.

Site of windmill (see 6 inch Ordnance Survey marking).

Smock mill. Described as'newly erected' in (S1) which says its top was blown off 'on Wednesday sennight'. Legal case in (S2) says it was of 'octagonal form, divided with little difficulty into eight pieces and easily removed anywhere, although the upper part which was woodwork and fastened by spokes and spikes to the brick foundation…'
For sale 3 October 1826 'all that capital smock mill with two pairs of stones and flourmill, going gears and machinery thereto…new built brick house and baking office'.
Earlier mill mentioned in area in an indenture of 1678 but site uncertain. NB [1] states that source (see file) has confused details of this site and site 15976, but all above refers to this site.
