Summary

Fieldwalking in 1986 by the Fenland Survey recovered a general scatter of medieval pottery sherds, and three Roman sherds. A sparse concentration of medieval pottery sherds, shell, bone were also noted on top of an extinct watercourse, as well as a number of Middle Saxon pottery sherds and bone that may cover the whole length of another extinct watercourse.

13 January 1986. Fenland fieldwalking on well weathered ploughsoil (S1).
Context 1 = general scatter medieval sherds also three Roman. TSC BO.
Context 2 at 5382 1780. Concentration sparse medieval pot, sparse to moderate shell, bone ditto but may be due to Middle Saxon occupation on context 3. Very little post medieval rubbish. Sits on a roddon (Fenland word for ghost of extinct watercourse). 37m east to west x 33m north to south at 2.8m OD. TSC 22.
Context 3 at 5370 1773. On low roddon (Fenland word for ghost of extinct watercourse) system sherds of Middle Saxon pottery and bone. Possible that covers whole length of roddon (Fenland word for ghost of extinct watercourse) but so far only two separate groups (at each end) really distinguishable. 2.8m OD. TSC 23.
