Full Description
17th century. Rendered and colourcoated timber frame partly replaced by brick. Pantile roof. Two storeys. Axial stack with modern porch in line. Later windows. Fragment of moulded plasterwork. West gable wall has two two-light ovolo moulded windows probably reset. Also external east gable stack. One surviving 18th century casement in rear wall.
Information from (S1).
House located by E. Rose (NAU), 24 January 1986.
This building is described as having been in very poor repair in 1963, with no modern services. See (S2) for an account of renovations undertaken between 1963 and 1985 including removal of a 1930's tiled fireplace and earlier bread oven, installation of several brick piers and french windows, removal of the west stairs, in-filling of the cellar, and installation of modern services. The property owner has speculated that this building may have originally been several cottages and was very likely two cottages in the 19th century, with two separate earth closets.
See (S2) for further details.
H. Hamilton (HES), 10 December 2012.
