NHER 2219 (Monument record) - Undated mound, possibly a beacon or windmill hill

Mound south of church near Stickfast Lane. Slightly elongated; around 8ft (2.44m) high, 60ft (18.3m) long. Trees growing in it. No berm; no ditch; of local clayey soil. Condition moderate. (now destroyed). Sea mark? medieval? (see NHER 2198).
Called by Bryant (S1) 'a very pronounced moot hill'.
Adjacent field is Castle Meadow (information from P. Routledge). Destroyed by Housing estate.

But described on note in File as 20ft (6.1m) high, 100ft (30m) diameter, summit 38 x 38ft (11.6 x 11.6m). Author of this?.

According to G. M. G. Woodgate in (S2), this mound was in 1610 described in a deed as Mill Hill. An old lady in 1808 stated that her mother had told her that mounds in the district were beacon hills for bonfires.
Woodgate describes the mound in his day as having 'rather a pointed top'.

R. Silvester (NAU), says farmer stated that around 40 years ago it was around 12ft (3.7m) high with four yew trees on it.

1967. Field Observation.
According to (S3), in 1967 'Norwich Museum' reported that the "...mound indicated on the O.S. map [at TF 501165] has been levelled for the construction of a bungalow." It is also noted that the adjoining field is called 'Castle Meadow', suggesting the mount may have been a motte.
