Map

Mound, site of.
(S1), an undated press cutting, describes as circular, about 4.5m (15ft) high, 61m (200ft) circumference, near Wynds Bridge. Threatened by ploughing; subsidence on northeast revealed slight traces of charcoal at top. No finds made in ploughing when watched by G. Fowler (Fenland Research Committee). No local traditions of origin.
G.M.G. Woodgate in (S2) quotes this cutting as published 'a few years ago' when mound was destroyed. He quotes an account of a beacon fire being lit in Napoleonic times at Islington, and that one mound (not necesarily this one) was called Bonfire Hill.
E. Rose (NAU), 6 December 1983.
