Full Description
Pyramid.
Grave of Melancthon W. H. L. Brooke, in cemetery. Built to precise dimensions set out in his will and dictated by tenets of the British Israel religion. Approx 1.65m (5ft 6in) high and the same square on the base, of solid blocks of stone. Alignment was clearly not so specified as it is aligned on the cemetery path and other graves. Covered in moss, the only word of the incised inscription legible is 'Lombe' (presumably reference to his father, William Lombe Brooke, unless his fourth initial stands for Lombe).
(S1) states that Brooke was born in 1840 and died aged 87 (in 1927) but one would have thought the tomb was considerably older than this.
Press cutting (S1) in file.
E. Rose (NAU) 25 March 1986.
January 2005.
In good condition and cleaned so that inscription can be read. It states Melancthon William Henry Lombe Brookes but gives the date as 1929 and his age as 90.
E. Rose (NLA) 8 January 2005.
