Summary

An 18th-century source records that 'In an old close by the Lezure was a conduit brought from a fair spring, the pipes have some of them been lately found there, the close is called Condyte Close in old deeds to this day.' Although this refers to somewhere in Wymondham, the exact location has not been identified.

Conduit, site of.

'In an old close by the Lezure was a conduit brought from a fair spring, the pipes have some of them been lately found there, the close is called Condyte Close in old deeds to this day'. (S1).

Source checked by E. Rose (NAU), around 1980. Enquries ar CEAS etc have failed to locate any reference to a Condyte Close though it was suggested that Lezure may be what is now called the Lizard, a common to southeast of the town.
E. Rose (NLA), 15 April 1986.

(S2) states that the conduit head was in 'Estapil field' (not located) near the Lizard, and ran to a pond in Conduit Field and then followed the contours to the Fairland, on to the corner of Damgatem and so to a cistern under the monastery. A detailed source is not given for the route.
