Full Description
18 April 1986. Two conjoined mounds.
Situation confused by old dyke and bank which incorporate mounds in their course. However these have been levelled out and where they are away from the postulated mounds are fairly slight features. Mounds stand out as rather different. Up to 2m high. No pottery collected because crop too high for adequate search.
R. J. Silvester (NAU), 27 April 1986.

July 2003. NMP.
A probable Late Saxon or medieval saltern mound, incorporated into the line of The Sea bank, visible as a sub-rounded earthwork on 1948 RAF vertical aerial photographs.
The mound appears to be sub-rounded in plan, although it also appears that only the western side of the feature is visible (S1). The mound has a maximum diameter of 52m. The eastern side is now bounded by the Sea Bank (NHER 2187), which appears to post-date and truncate the mound. This is probably a saltern mound. The date of the Sea Bank is the subject of debate. Some elements of the feature are likely to Late Saxon in date, although there are undoubtedly later additions and amendments. This particular mound is likely to pre-date the bank at this point and is probably Late Saxon or medieval in date.
M. Brennand (NMP), 24th July 2003.
