Summary

A rectangular moated enclosure has been noted at this site. Excavation demonstrated that this enclosure is post medieval.

Moat. Gaultree Farm.
On south side the ditch could be 10m wide x 1.5m deep. Gradually being filled with rubbish. On east side much smaller ditch, more like drainage dyke. On west side no trace. However there is a raised ridge, probably a track, see (S1), which leads to double doors of barn. This could well be on line of medieval ditch. 2.4m OD.

Magnetometry survey of proposed development site. Much of area magnetically disturbed making it difficult to identify anomalies of obvious archaeological interest, although a few were highlighted.

1992. Metal-detecting Survey and Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site by Fenland Archaeological Trust.
West ditch of enclosure found; one possible medieval sherd but otherwise only 19th to 20th century objects. Conclusion reached that this enclosure is of post 17th century date.
