Map

May 1986. Manor House. Visit.
Wall between Old Vicarage and Manor House Farmhouse. Includes reused masonry. Several lumps of limestone in this 19th century (?) flint wall.
According to member of the public [1] Manor House contains reused medieval remains of Field Dalling Priory. However (S1) states that this probably never existed and was only a grange. See note [2].
E. Rose (NAU), 14 May 1986.

1990s.
Complete lava mill stone found as capping for well in a cattle yard. Photographs (S2) and measurements in file. Had been reused in 1913. Information from member of the public [3].

NHER site extended to include the whole of what is now called Mountgrace Manor, formerly Manor House Farmhouse. (S3) dates house as 16th century with early 19th century remodelling.
Present plan with projecting porch tower in line with chimneystack and rear catslide. 16th century features described are brick and stone quoins, stone four centred arched door to rear, heavily chamfered spine, bridging and cambered tiebeams and midwall rails.
Architects' plans, 1997 (S4) in file
E. Rose (NLA), 14 February 1997.

Source [4] who has visited the building states he believes it to be 17th rather than 16th century, despite wide chamfers and screens passage plan but with only one service door. Screen remains but is 18th century.
Very much ashlar; was it imported for the house rather than local reuse? Wallpaintings on studs at first floor. Tunnel through chimneystack which source believes to be original rather than 19th century.
E. Rose (NLA), 8 May 1997.
