Summary

This timber framed house is of late 16th to early 17th century date. It is brick built with black glazed pantiles and stands two storeys high. The roof is made using staggered purlins and collars. A 20th century pseudo classical porch has been added and a rear extension has been added in more recent times.

Listing Description:
The house is of late 16th - early 17th century date. It is brick built with black glazed pantiles and has three cells, lobby entrance, two storeys and an attic. The Platband does not reach the gables and there is a dentilled cornice. The axial stack is off centre. Early 20th century windows and porch have been added. Gables in flint and brick mosaic, gable ends raised by approximately 0.5m. Attic windows in both gables. Interior has archway through stack between fireplaces. Left-hand cell fireplace with fireback dated 1588 but has a 20th century surround. Plain chamfered beams. Timber frame to rear wall of central cell and heavy timber frame to attic floor, also internal attic partitions. Thin bricks to stack. Roof of staggered purlins and collars. Recent rear extension.

NB (S1) shows hall farm (NHER47226) to the northwest of the village, as Plumstead Hall.

Current GIS shows the building as Plumstead House rather than Plumstead Hall, which tends to confirm that this was not the manorial site.
