Summary

A timber framed three cell house dating from the late 16th or early 17th century, with alterations from the early 19th century, including classical architectural details. The barn is also timber framed, dating from the late 18th century, with an original brick threshing floor.

House: 17th century timber frame, altered 19th century. Tarred brick plinth, render above. Black glazed pantiles. 2 storeys and attic. Off centre ridge stack, rebuilt above ridge. 19th century external gable stack left. L plan; 3 bay range added rear wing dated 1803. Early 19th century brick entrance porch in front of original lobby entrance. Greek Revival Doric doorcase; sash window above and gable with scalloped bargeboards, 3 light casements either side of porch on each floor. 17th century roof with windbraces. Applestore on upper floor rear wing.
Barn: 17th century timber frame, weatherboarded. Black glazed pantiles S, red pantiles north, 5 bays including offcentre waggon entrance to south. Original brick threshing floor. Clasped purlin roof, diagonal struts from tiebeams to purlins and collar braces.

Detailed examination showed that this is a timber framed three cell house with cross passage and offcentre stack, dating to the late 16th or early 17th century. The barn is in fact nearer 1800 than 17th century.
