Full Description
Complex building containing reused 12th to 13th century masonry.
Original building was a single storey and attic with a first floor north fireplace and external stack, and probably dated to around 1550. Somewhere around 1600 it was heightened and extended to the south to form an agriculutral building with several storage and animal compartments on the ground floor and servantss quarters above, except for the extreme south end which formed a two storey steward's or foreman's house with a chimney.
Later converted to cottages probably in 19th century; facade of 1950.
See (S1) and (S2) in file.
E. Rose (NAU) 22 September 1986.
S. Heywood (NCC) notes that the rear wall of the house is timber framed, whilst the front façade, which faces Woodrising Hall, is of brick with diapered decoration.
