Map

Early 19th century uncommon building with iron columns, since reroofed so that outlined changed; six other maltings added about 1880-1890 plus a Saladin building to take a box turner, at that time newly invented in France. Now used for storage.
Information from Norfolk Industrial Archaeology Society records (fiche at NAU).
E. Rose (NAU),31 October 1986.

Demolished May 1987; the Saladin building at least; how much of remainder not known.
Information from South Norfolk District Council.
E. Rose (NAU), 21 May 1987.

It would appear from (S1) that in 1838 the maltings were adjacent to or incorporated in the watermill, marked as Wainford Mills, which (S2) states was there in the 18th century and in 1864 had a steam engine with a Cornish boiler installed.
E. Rose (NLA), 1 December 2003.

(S3) shows the full extent of this large complex of mill and maltings extending into Broome parish (and also across the border into Suffolk).
