Summary

A partially timber framed and brick house, dating from the early 17th century, with later alterations. On the side of the house is a fragment of a Roman capital, decorated with acanthus leaves, dating to the 5th or 6th centuries.

Grid ref corrected 1987 from new 1:10,000 which shows Manor House is in fact Low Farm renamed.

House of early 17th century origin, altered late 17th century, remodelled early 19th. Brick, part timber frame. Thatched. Lobby entrance. 2 storeys and dormers. South facade was 17th century door to left in incised surround. Late windows, one dormer extending above two windows. 5 bays. Ridge stack opposite door. Early 17th century northern cross wing of same height, timber framed, gable refaced in brick. Three light mullioned window, west wall first floor, ovolo moulded. Crosswing roof to tiebeams, 2 tiers butt purlins and canted collars; similar roof to main range. Chamfered and stopped bridging beams.

On east side house is 5th to 6th century Eastern Roman Empire marble capital with deeply incised primitive acanthus carving; now inverted.
