Summary

Fieldwalking as part of the Fenland Survey recovered a scatter of prehistoric burnt flints and pieces of Iron Age and Roman pot. A slight concentration of Iron Age pot was noted in one area of the field. Circular features identified here on aerial photographs are probably natural glacial markings.

Map

22 December 1986. Fenland fieldwalking.
Weathered soil, strawberry plants.
Context 1 general scatter. MTW CL.
Odd sherds Iron Age pottery and couple of pot boiler scatters, a few only, in field, general collection

Context 2 at 7215 9700. MTW CK.
Sherds of Iron Age pottery near northern edge of field. Not enough to constitute a Fenland 'site' but conditions
militate against optimum collection. Spread over area more than 60m east to west and at least 50m south 6.8m OD .
Also one Roman sherd from each context.
R. Silvester (NAU), 22 December 1986.

On NLA air photographs taken 7 July 1992 circular features occur in the north of this field, and the adjacent field, listed by D. Edwards (NLA) as ring ditches. However, these are hard to differentiate from the sub-circular glacial markings around and are probably natural.
E. Rose (NLA), 18 April 1994.
