Summary

Metal detecting here in 1986 and 1991 recovered an Iron Age bridle bit, a 4th century Roman coin, part of a Roman buckle plate and a 14th century jetton.

December 1986. Metal detecting.
Link of double or triple linked bridle bit. Similar to Polden Hill type, with heavily moulded cylindrical sleeve at one end, simple ring at other. Moulding, see for comparison Middlebie figure C43.

One 4th century coin. Identified by D. Gurney (NLA) 30 May 1991 (see list in file).

Late Saxon (?) or medieval cast bronze fitting with central socket, flanked by two 'wings' or attachment plates, one broken, one with a rivet hole. ?handle attachment plate?
14th century jetton (with hole for suspension) Shield with Arms of France AVE MARIA GRATIA P. Rev 3 strand cross Fleury, see for comparison Barnard PLVI no43.
