Summary

Metal detecting and fieldwalking at this site during 1987 and 1991 recovered a variety of artefacts. These included the tip of a Bronze Age spearhead, a medieval seal matrix and sherds of Iron Age, Roman, Saxon and medieval pottery.

January 1987 or before. Arable land, believed metal detector find. West of bypass.
Context 2: at 6127 9532. Tip of bronze spearhead, overall shape and section as in sketch. Surviving length 9cm maximum. Width at base of fragment 25mm thickness 1cm.

30 November, 23 December 1987. Fenland fieldwalking. weathered ploughsoil, good conditions.
Context 1 (Site SRY AF): general scatter over field. Odd flints and Roman pottery, some of which is south of context 3 and may be an extension of it. Also four ?Early Saxon, one St Neots, seven medieval sherds.
Context 3 (SRY 9) at location [2]: 70m northwest-southeast x 60m northeast-southwest but see note above.
Sparse spread Roman pottery and few Iron Age flint gritted sherds. No detectable colour staining on gravelly loam soil. Few flints, probably not associated.

1991. Metal detector finds. Context 4 at location [3] (approx).
Circular lead seal matrix with quatrefoil in centre, pierced loop on reverse edge and cast longitudinal rib from loop.
Inscription S'FRATERI EREMAN.
