1984. Building Survey.
Survey of Hillside Farm by Brooke Society.
See report (S1) for details.
The building is basically timber framed with opposing screens passage doors and diamond mullioned windows on upper floor. This seems to have been only two cell, with first floor hall having queenpost roof on braces from posts to ties and purlins. Stack at east end may be later, or contemporary, now covered by eastern extension, apparently later as there are double wallposts and unconnected wallplates at the junction. This east room has ceiling beam supported on brackets from posts, all stopped, in 16th/early 17th century style, indicating central section predates this. Another room with stack at west of central block appears to be an even later addition and rear outshuts.
This analysis is based on the drawings and descriptions in (S1), their conclusions are somewhat contradictory to each other, being written by different persons.
E. Rose, (NAU) 15 July 1987. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 16 April 2015.
