Summary

A rectangular enclosure and linear features of unknown date are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. This is the site of a Roman settlement suggested by the quantity of Roman pottery, tile fragments, coins and metalwork recovered by occasional fieldwalking and metal-detecting between 1987 and 2012. Also found were prehistoric worked flints; fragments of pottery dating from the late prehistoric to the post-medieval periods; post-medieval gunflints and Early Saxon to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include Early Saxon brooches; a Middle/Late Saxon strap-end; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval/post-medieval lead weight, thimbles, a scale from a knife and a post-medieval crotal bell and sword belt mount.
