Summary

Fieldwalking in 1987 by the Fenland Survey recovered a large amount of brick and tile sherds, along with bone fragments and post medieval pottery sherds. A cropmark of a small rectangular feature with a small side was also noted at the same site, which may be associated with the marks of the removed ditches of the present field system.

Map

21 October 1987. Fenland fieldwalking. Field inside meander of Nar, on south.
Much brick and tile, some bone and few fragments of post medieval pottery (17th century?) found when fieldwalking cropmark of small rectangle with sloping north side. This feature was noted on NAU aerial photographs (S1-2) by D. Edwards (NAU) and E. Rose (NAU) but was not then allocated a county number because it appeared to be a late feature associated with other linear marks, clearly of removed ditches of the present field system. Enclosure however shows on ground, three sides only, as gentle dark stained depression no more than 0.3m deep, with island raised up to 0.4m site of 17th century house?. WHW AZ (S3).
Finds in NCM.
For full details of wares, flint types etc see Fenland Folders (S4).
R. Silvester (NAU), and E. Rose (NAU), 21 October 1987.
