Summary

In 1987 a Palaeolithic handaxe was recovered from the surface of a field here. This example was scratched and had suffered both ancient and recent breakage. This find forms part of large scatter NHER 29631.

1987. Stray Find.
Found by [1] on surface of field:
1 Palaeolithic flint handaxe. Thick-butted cordate, 12cm long with a little removed from the tip by ancient and recent breaks. Flaked all over, no cortex remaining. Scratched and with crushed edges as if from solifluction deposit. Stained and patinated but recent break exposes good quality black flint.

This discovery was first reported in (S3). The handaxe is also noted on (S4) and in (S5) and (S6), although no additional information is given.
