Summary

A large Middle Saxon buckle, made of copper alloy and decorated with gilding and niello inlay, found by metal detecting in 1987. The buckle may have been designed to hold a relic.

Large copper alloy keyhole shaped buckle, gilded on sides and silvered surface with niello inlay; stamped ornament and confronted style two animal heads. Tongue plate may have been enamelled. Loops for bars to retain leather belt on reverse. Possibly intended to hold relic. 7th century.
