Summary

In 1987-8 surface investigation and metal detecting recovered a variety of metal and pottery fragments. These included Early Saxon brooch parts and a buckle. Also found were pottery fragments from the Roman period to the medieval.

Winter 1986-1987. Surface finds and m/d finds in sugar beet field in what is to become a golf course.
Good scatter, over area about 100m across, of 3rd and 4th century Roman pottery. At SE edge of scatter, three Early Saxon bronze objects, kidney-shaped buckle, fragment of cruciform brooch (junction of foot and bow) and edge fragment of disc brooch with faint residual traces of low relief ornamental border interlace (?), skeuomorph (?) of coin inscription (illiterate copy of inscription) - this is perhaps Late Saxon or just Middle Saxon (E.B. Green).
