Summary

Fenland fieldwalking in 1988 recorded a scatter of medieval pottery sherds and prehistoric flints and pot boilers at this location. Subsequent metal detecting here during 1993 recovered a medieval jetton, part of a post medieval buckle with cast rosette motifs and the top of a medieval sword chape.

22 February 1988. Fenland fieldwalking, good weathered soil and young cereal.
Context 1: general scatter odd medieval sherds and general flints. Site SRY AS. Includes a plano-convex knife - F. Healy (NAU).
Context 2 at 6252 9572: concentration pot boilers abundant, one possible flint (marked with context 1) on gentle east facing slope of sandy loam. 40m northwest-southeast x 42m northeast-southwest at 4.3m OD. Site SRY 11.

May 1993. Part of Context 1. Metal detector finds.
(1) English jetton Edward II type 1310-14. Reverse: long cross with single pellet in each angle, LOL in each segment of border.
(2) 16th century double looped buckle fragment, silvered, cast rosette motifs on frame.
(3) Top of medieval sword chape with openwork decoration.
