Map

4 July 1987. BKS Air Photography (for Norfolk County Council Vertical Air Survey of Norfolk) No. 0063.
Positive cropmarks. Three ring ditches, one large, recorded as variation in 200 foot contour on (S1), flanked by two smaller ring ditches.
D. Edwards (NAU) 3 March 1988.

April 2002. Norfolk NMP.
The larger feature (centre: TF 7963 4210), appears as a large, narrow ditched ring ditch or enclosure with a diameter of 65m (S2). The interior of the feature has an irregular pattern of light coloured, areas with a parched or compacted appearance. On the BKS image (S3) this feature looks convincing and genuine as a prehistoric feature and it may be the site of a Bronze Age barrow. The proximity to 'Barrow Common' (approximately 850m to the north west) should also be noted, although there are no round barrows evident in that area either. However, on the 1946 RAF images (S2) the feature resembles a sinkhole more than an archaeological feature. To the immediate west are two further stretches of curvilinear ditch, which may be the remains of further ring ditches or enclosures but may equally be geological in origin. There also appears to be a meandering northwest to southeast aligned linear ditch (TF 7950 4212 to TF 7958 4204) to the south west of the 'ring ditches'.
The cause of all these cropmarks is uncertain, but they may equally be geological in origin as archaeological.
M. Brennand (NMP), 16 April 2002.
