Summary

This medieval gate is situated at the junction of St Benedict's Street, Dereham Road, Grapes Hill and Barn Road. In 1160 it was referred to as Bennet Gates. In 1679 the gate tower was repaired and in 1746 the arch over St Benedict's Gate was rebuilt.

This gate was called 'Porta de Westwyk' in 18th of Edward I, and 'Westwyk Gate' in 21 and 39. Henry VI (see (S1)).
1160. Referred to as Bennet Gates.
1679. Gate tower repaired.
1746. Arch over St Benedict's Gate rebuilt.
