FINDS IN MUSEUM COLLECTIONS

The Ipswich Museum Layard Collection includes an incomplete Late Upper Palaeolithic flint long blade that was found in North Elmham (unregistered). This is listed in (S1) and described in (S2). The source of this object is not known. The only location in the parish where Nina Layard is known to have worked is Elmham Park, where she recovered a copper alloy vessel that was exhibited at a meeting of the Society of Antiquaries in May 1900 (S3) (NHER 2906).

OTHER RECORDED DISCOVERIES

North Elmham is listed in (S3) as one of the locations in which Neolithic flints of "Boulder Clay Type" had been found prior to 1907. It is noted that these had been found by Clarke himself, but no other details are given. Information from (S4).
