Summary

Fieldwalking at this location in 1988 and 1992 and metal-detecting in 2023 and 2025 recovered prehistoric worked flints (including a Mesolithic tranchet axehead); Roman, medieval, medieval/post-medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; post-medieval tile fragments; medieval and post-medieval coins and a number of other metal objects, including a Roman cosmetic pestle; a Roman to medieval copper alloy ingot; Late Saxon/medieval lead spindle whorls; a medieval harness pendant suspension unit and a medieval/post-medieval copper alloy vessel fragment.

November 1992-January 1993. Systematic Fieldwalking Survey.
Evaluation on proposed route of Hardwick Landfill site access road (Field 3; Context 2):
Prehistoric worked flints including small tranchet axehead of probable Mesolithic date.
Occasional post-medieval pottery sherds and tile fragments (all of relatively recent date).
