Summary

Metal-detecting between 1993 and 2025 recovered Roman, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; Late Iron Age, Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; a medieval jetton; medieval/post-medieval tokens and a range of other, Late Bronze Age to post-medieval metal objects. These metal finds include a Late Bronze Age socketed axehead and spearhead fragment; Late Iron Age/Roman cosmetic mortars; Roman brooches, a finger ring, key, drop handle, military harness mount or strap fitting, copper alloy nails, copper alloy stud, copper alloy hair pin and lead steelyard weights; an Early Saxon brooch and sleeve clasp; a Late Saxon strap end, strap distributor and iron and copper alloy weight; a Late Saxon to post-medieval lead spindle whorls and a lead weight; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; medieval mounts, a barrel padlock, key, harness pendant, sword or dagger scabbard chape, lead seal matrices, lead pot mends and lead weight; a medieval/post-medieval purse bar, copper alloy rings, lead weights and a lead window came fragment and post-medieval harness mounts, a large animal bell, handle, book clasp, silver bodkin fragment, pewter toy and lead weights. The number of Roman finds recovered indicates that there was probably a settlement of that date on the site.
