Summary

Metal detecting at this location from 1993-99 unearthed a collection of metal objects dating to a variety of archaeological periods. The most interesting of these were a medieval gilded bronze ring brooch with quatrefoil decoration and a Late Saxon key with elaborate openwork on the handle.

13th century gilded bronze ring brooch, broken at narrow pin-bar. Decorated with two quatrefoils, and alternating plain and square fields with quatrefoils in them. Lovely!

Late Saxon key with openwork oval bow and suspension loop. Ward with central slot. Bow has open cross in centre.

Early Saxon buckle with three roundels on frame each having central boss. Scored frame and volutes at each end of pin bar.
Early Saxon? tweezers, transverse lines at bow and inverted ends of arms.

At location [4]. 14th century strap end with openwork panel in front which has 'trefoil' base and inset is a stem or foliage. Stylised animal head terminal. Scalloped top edge. Contains material which is probably hemp.
At location [5]. 13th century buckle with moulded pin rest and attachment plate.

At location [6]. Bronze hooked tag 11th century. Sub-circular head with floral design and notched edge. Two attachment loops at top. Slight collar at top of hook. Parallels at Winchester.
At location [7]. Fragment of cast bronze openwork mount 11th century. Pierced at least once centrally. Possibly cruciform in style with ?Ringerike style animal motifs around outside. Flat at back .
