Summary

A group of undated linear ditches is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. They were initially interpreted as representing the possible remains of a building within an enclosure, but there is little evidence to support this. Subsequent work by the National Mapping Programme has demonstrated that they are more likely to be fragments of field boundaries, part of an extensive group of multi-period cropmarks NHER 45089.

Map

31 July 1990. Ordnance Survey air photography.
Cropmarks noted by B.Cushion (NLA) and shown to E.Rose (NLA) May 1994.
Cropmark of two dark rectangles, one within the other, as if of a building within an enclosure, but not apparently a moat. Part of enclosures obscured by pits or natural features.
Photocopy in file.
E.Rose and B.Cushion (NLA), 1 June 1994.

September 2006. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks described above are visible on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 4174 1698. They are now recorded as part of a much more extensive group of multi-period cropmarks, NHER 45089. The ‘enclosure’ is more likely to be made up of minor field boundaries. The ‘building’ comprises two wide ditches of doubtful archaeological origin.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 29 September 2006.
