Summary

Fieldwalking here in 1997 recovered sherds of Iron Age, Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and post medieval pottery. Other finds included prehistoric pot boilers and parts of a post medieval tobacco pipe. 18th century maps refer to this area as Drakes Green, and this may be the name of the owner.See NHER 54462 for earthworks of probable medieval to post medieval trackways and boundaries, some of which may be associated with Drakes Green, and would appear to pre-date the establishment of Taverham Park.

Map of 1740 (in parish file) calls this area Drakes Green which [1] suggests comes from Drake meaning Dragon, hence a burial mound, as in other Norfolk sites. But as late as 1640 this might be an owners name.
