NHER 3374 (Find Spot record) - Prehistoric, Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and post medieval finds

8 April 1986. Fieldwalking western field only, well weathered soil.
Context 1: general scatter medieval sherds. WHW (S1). A. Barnett (NLA).
Context 2 at [2]: Small concentration of medieval pottery over area perhaps around 20m square. WHW A (S2).
Context 3 at [3]: Scatter of medieval pottery, sparse to moderate, shell sparse but moderate to abundant in localised patches, mainly mussel and oyster. Bone sparse, very little post medieval contamination. 69m north to south x 56m east to west at 5.2m OD. WHW 1 (S3). ('much Grimston-Thetford'). Finds in NCM.

June 2008. Trial Trenching.
A medieval furrow was found in two of the evaluation trenches, indicating that this area was under open-field cultivation in the medieval period. Ridge and furrow is visible on aerial photographs of this area (NHER 27996). Finds of 12th to 14th century pottery within the topsoil were probably a result of manuring the open field. A single worked flint flake and a small fragment of burnt flint were discovered but these were not closely datable.
