REPORTED DISCOVERIES

Pre 1922. Stray Find.
According to (S1) W. G. Clarke's notes (S2) record Ashwicken as a location that had produced Neolithic polished or ground implements prior to 1922.

FINDS IN MUSEUM COLLECTIONS

A note added to (S1) by E. Rose (NAU) suggests that the Norwich Castle Museum holds the butt of a Neolithic polished axehead from Leziate. However, the old-style accession number given (32.925) does not appear to correspond with any of the objects from Leziate listed in the museum's current records. This information was however added to the record card relating to the note made by W. G. Clarke (see above). It is therefore possible that this should have actually been a reference to the NCM's main W. G. Clarke collection, which is accessioned as NWHCM : 1926.32

The King's Lynn Museum holds an unprovenanced Roman object described in their records as a "nail cleaner or hook from chatelaine (KILLM : 1993.701). This object has now been identified as an end-looped cosmetic pestle. It is described and illustrated in (S3), in which its provenance is given as Ashwicken. It appears that the date and circumstances of its discovery are not known.

Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 21 March 2016.
