Summary

The name of this crossroads reputedly comes from a local man named Cross, who committed suicide and was buried as the crossroads. However, the site is named as 'Adis Grave' or 'Adys Grave' in medieval documents, and the name may have been changed in the post medieval period to refer to the crossroads.

Map

Cross's Grave.
'A suicide named Cross was buried here.....by the crossroads is a mound said to be his grave, and the road menders always add a little more earth to the top, to preserve his memory'.
See (S1).
E. Rose (NAU)

Some slightly flattened mounds visible, very low, probably only result of hedge being uprooted.
E. Rose (NAU) 20 February 1978.

Source [1] states that this is probably the same as the site named as Adis Grave or Adys Grave in medieval charters, the name being changed because it was at the cross roads and the legend changed to fit!
E. Rose (NLA) 26 September 1995.
