Full Description
About 1886/pre 1889.
Barrow, in which was found an earthen jar and bodies with feet to centre.
Grid reference suggested by R. R. Clarke (NCM) is almost certainly not accurate. He suggested that it was perhaps destroyed by gravel pits at TF 746 176. But this pit is marked on 1843 tithe map (S1), so this cannot be correct. Cropmark NHER 11755 could be the site.
See further details in file.
E. Rose (NAU), 1 July 1981.
(S2) from 1889 says mound was destroyed 'only a few years ago' and mentions a sestertius of Hadrian found nearby.
E. Rose (NAU), 21 June 1982.
