Summary

In 1829 a range of Bronze Age artefacts were recovered either as chance finds or through digging. Axes were the most numerous finds but two quoit-shaped pins were also retrieved. The finds here may come from the same hoard as NHER 4495 and NHER 2602.

Map

Before 1829. Finds from Bradmoor Common.
Two copper alloy quoit-shaped pins of Bronze Age date were found. One specimen had a ring of 14cm (5.5in) diameter and a pin of length 25cm (10in) (tapering and flattened). These items may form part of a Bronze Age hoard.
See (S1) and the Broughton Hoard for comparable finds.

1829. Finds dug up on common on north side of river opposite Narborough Camp.
One Bronze Age pin and several Bronze Age celts were found.
Information from [1] (who showed it to S. Woodward), additional information from [2].
See (S2) for 1/2 scale coloured sketch.
R. R. Clarke (NCM).

(S3) NRO says the finds described above were found 1826.
Both stone and brass celts and the associated pins were hanging in the hall of [3] but maybe this should read as the hall of [4]? (S2) calls them insignia of a Dalmatian horse (p.29: the one from Pompeii in British Museum is exactly similar).
E. Rose (NAU/NLA).

See (S4) in which the author suggests this may be part of same hoard as Barton Bendish (NHER 4495) and Boughton Fen (NHER 2602).
E. Rose (NAU) 18 February 1986.
