Summary

Aerial photographs show the earthworks and, later, cropmarks, of several possible field boundaries or drainage ditches to the southwest of Stowbedon Hall. It is possible that these linear ditches represent medieval to post medieval strip field boundaries, however it is also likely that they relate to post medieval drainage ditches.

Aerial photographs (S2-S6) show the earthworks and, later, cropmarks, of several possible field boundaries or drainage ditches to the southwest of Stowbedon Hall. The earthworks and cropmarks are centred on TL 9650 9426. It is possible that these linear ditches represent medieval to post medieval strip field boundaries, as suggested in the corresponding NMR record (TL 99 SE18), however it is also likely that they relate to post medieval drainage ditches, as the majority appear to run north south, perpendicular to an east-west drain marked on the Ordnance Survey map, and at least one runs east-west into a drainage channel to the west.
E. Ford (NMP), 31 October 2012.
