Summary

A 2003 walkover survey revealed a sinuous line of eleven timber posts. They may have been part of a trackway associated with the Holme I timber circle (NHER 33771). Two timber posts to the north (NHER 38217) could also have been part of this trackway. Unfortunately the difficulties involved in working in the inter-tidal zone mean that it has not been possible to collect samples for radiocarbon dating.

February to March 2003. NAU survey.
A sinuous line of eleven posts. They were possibly part of a trackway associated with the first timber circle (NHER 33771).
Two timber posts to the north (NHER 38217) may also be related.
J. Allen (NLA), 23 April 2003.

September 2003. Site visit.
Standing water, mud and sand in and around monument, visibility poor.
Series of erosion gullies and undulations along channel/along length of monument - indicate that erosion is taking place.
D. Robertson (NAU), 21 October 2003.

January/February 2004. Site monitoring.
In both January and February the channel in which the timbers are located was full of water. Pieces of wood were visible through the water but it was not clear if they were posts and roots. The peat bed to the northeast of the monument has been breached by the sea – this may mean that some posts have been lost and/or it places them under threat. As it was impossible to identify the posts, no samples were taken for radiocarbon dating or species identification.
D. Robertson (NLA), 3 March 2004.
