Full Description
1969. Stray Find.
North side of Regent Street near Junction with Howard Street.
Workmen found up to ten sets of crucibles and a skittle pot in the infill of an earth cellar.
It is likely that these come from 18 Regent Street, which was occupied by Thomas William Lamb, watchmaker and jeweller, 1863 to 1914 (local directories information from P. Rutledge). Site visited by P. Rutledge and C. Green, who found four sets of crucibles and a skittle pot (a type of crucible).
See drawings (S1) and correspondance in file.
These objects were donated to the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1969.298).
Information from (S2).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 9 August 2018.
Before 1985. Stray Find.
"On corner of Regent Street, Great Yarmouth post office. Dug up out of old well." (this likely to be the same site as 1969 find, as Miss Nicholls found them in the 'new post office').
Four nesting crucibles, fireclay, the outer one stamped CC within a heart.
Identified by S. M. Margeson (NCM) 30 January 1985.
Compiled by E. Rose (NAU). Information from (S3).
