Summary

An undated wide bank survives in fields and in woodland. It has been suggested that the bank could be the remains of an east to west aligned Roman road. However, the presence of a post medieval bridge abutment where the bank meets a ditch suggests that it may be later in date.

Further lengths of an approximate east to west Roman road? Recorded in Holme next the Sea as NHER 4374.

February 1974. Visit.
East of wood showing as bank crossing corner of field, about 4m wide, on north side of A149.
In woods shows as bank about 4m wide along south side of wood, until at southwest corner it is cut by ditch.
On east bank of ditch bridge abutment of squared carstone topped by post medieval brickwork. Nothing similar visible on west bank, possibly removed.
Cut-back west bank did show bank of brown loam and a little gravel continuing west.
Line continued by hedge towards Roman settlement area, adjacent to waterworks.
