Summary

It is recorded that a linear feature is visible as a cropmark on this site. Fieldwalking in 1984 by the Fenland Survey recovered a general scatter of medieval pottery sherds from this area, as well as noting a concentration of medieval and post medieval pottery sherds. Metal detecting in 1994 recovered a late medieval or post medieval belt fitting.

Full Description

29 October 1984.
Context 1: General scatter over field found in fieldwalking. Odd sherds medieval pot mostly at east end. Fen site WPP EZ (S1).
Context 2: at 5146 1500. Sparse to moderate scatter medieval pot with moderate post medieval pot on edge of drove with material ploughed down side. Good conditions, weathered soil and young cereal. 60m east to west x 75m north to south. Fen site WPP 88 (S2).

June 1994.
Late medieval or post medieval belt fitting. Lead or lead alloy circular domed but solid stud, engraved decoration of radiating double lines and central circle lobed border. Two rivets on reverse. Diameter 16mm. 13th century bronze buckle. Thick tongue rest. One rivet through plate. Traces of gilding.
