Summary

An undated human skeleton was found near the church. The skeleton was said to have been found lying face down with a metal object between its ribs and a coin of 1220. It has been associated locally with disturbances at the time of Kett's rebellion and the Luddite riots. Its proximity to NHER 4618 suggests it may be part of a larger cemetery.

1980.
E. James (KLM) supplies following details - the skeleton was said to have been found lying face down with a metal object between its ribs and a coin of 1220. However when examined by Miss Mottram (KLM) there were no ribs, let alone no coin or metal. It was associated with local legends of a battle. These legends have been associated with disturbances at the time of Kett's rebellion, other peasant disturbances, and Luddite riots, all of which seem to be locally documented.

In which direction from the church is not stated! Was it near site NHER 4619?

Yes see below.

Above grid reference is only bungalow within 45m (50 yards) of the church. Therefore the burial seems to be a continuation of site NHER 4619.
